Volunteers are the pillars of Berkeley Animal Center. We welcome volunteers to come work alongside our staff both on-site and out in the community.
Onsite Volunteering
Volunteers must be at least 18 years old to work onsite. Several positions require training, which can be scheduled and completed after attending a volunteer orientation.
Volunteer orientations are vital to making sure our volunteers are safely providing the proper care to our amazing animals. Be sure to follow Berkeley Animal Center on Facebook for updates on when volunteer orientations are scheduled.
Onsite duties include:
- Daily kennel and cage cleaning tasks
- Dishes and laundry
- Organizing donations
- Walking dogs and taking them to the play yard
- Socializing cats in our free roaming cat room
- Helping potential adopters with meeting the animals.
Offsite Volunteering
- Handling dogs at events and showing them to the public.
- Cleaning and caring for the cats at the local PetSmart.
- Doggie Dates and Rover Nights are programs where you can take a dog out for the day or overnight from Saturday night till Tuesday morning.
- Transporting animals to offsite vet appointments
- Transport to meet with pulling rescue groups
Become a Transport Driver
Want to help the shelter in a unique way? Consider being a driver for one of our transports! We frequently send dogs and cats to the SPCA in Massachusetts for a better chance at getting adopted. The typical trip is three days: drive to Massachusetts through the first night; drop off animals the next morning and enjoy Salem; and drive back to South Carolina on the third day.
Drivers must be 21+ with a valid driver’s license. Hotel, gas, and food stipend are all provided. If you’re interested, email vog.csytnuocyelekreb @sllim.noved to join the list of interested drivers!
